In my practice

I am Bauke, I am a Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a clinical trauma practice. I am passionate about working alongside people, guiding them through a journey of exploring who they are, their strengths, gaining insights and growth towards healing. I work with adults (18 years and up), and I provide person-centered counselling and psychotherapy space.

You take the lead in this counselling space; you are the expert in your life. I am there to take you through self-discovery, exploring different ways of counselling, tailored to the your needs. I work holistically, combining somatic work, narrative therapy and an open-minded attitude. The aim is to build your resilience, creating new possibilities and finding the change you are looking for.

I strongly believe in the capacity of people to heal and flourish with some guidance and support you can overcome hurdles and grow.

More about Bauke

I migrated from Belgium to Australia with my family of four in 2015. During the first few years, I took care of my young children and built community. This journey thought me humility and respect towards other cultures, things I took for granted in my home country. Learning the language more proficient and understanding the social structures helped me build confidence to step into work. My previous extensive experience in Social work had left me craving to help people in a more positive way. I have been teaching groups, building people’s confidence and self-awareness through my yoga classes in community and schools.

My somatic work with individuals over the past 8 years has been helpful in Counselling work. In my sessions I use an holistic approach through a combination of clinical and somatic work to achieve growth and healing.

Since 2021 psychotherapy has been a journey of extensive study and work experiences, alongside my own lived experience in chronic illness, trauma and grief.

How I work

I provide a non-judgmental, inclusive and accepting environment. Empathy, curiosity and a positive regard are aspects of the approach. In the session we work collaboratively, at your pace, allowing the time to becoming familiar and allowing time to find yourself in the space.

Through storytelling, I can guide you towards creating clarity of what is important for you, where you feel stuck and finding elements of growth and resilience. This is not a linear path; we might climb mountains one session and sit along a river the next. What you bring to the session is a moment in time, I follow your rhythm and see where the focus is needed for healing and growth.

You are the expert in your life, and I value your experience and knowledge and see where the path takes us.
